“Nobody followed me,” she promised, clearly noticing his stare. “No security, no paparazzi … hopefully no fans, but sometimes that happens so if it does, just let me say hi, do my thing, and don’t answer anybody’s questions because they will try to get literally anything they can out of you. Fair warning.”

Lev’s attention went back to her in an instant. “Oh, no worries on that. I wouldn’t mind if you did need to bring somebody, by the way. It’s probably a normal thing for you, right?”

“Regular … not something I’d call normal.”

“Point taken. Wanna sit down?”

Her brilliant, gorgeous smile was back just like that. “Yeah, let’s sit. Nice place. Not my usual style, but … it serves the purpose for keeping me out of sight, right?”

Lev’s laughter came out dark and husky as he reclaimed his stool, and she took the one on his right. “Sorry, would you have preferred a club?”

She peered his way, and her dark lashes fanned wide with black mascara distracted him from the bartender’s approach with the whiskey sour he’d ordered for Gigi. “I preferred to catch up with you, Lev. I didn’t care where we did it.”

Right.

He would keep that in mind.

“And you remembered, too.”

“What’s that?” he asked.

Gigi winked and pointed at the glass the bartender set on top of a white, monogrammed napkin in front of her. “Whiskey sour. My drink of choice.”

A pointed look from Lev sent the bartender spinning around to head for someone else down the bar when the man opened his mouth like he was going to say something to the woman next to him. Gigi’s light laugh might have embarrassed him for being so possessive over her time and presence but fuck it … he wasn’t going to apologize for it.

“I think he knows who you are,” Lev said, palming the beer on the bar that he’d been nursing long before Gigi arrived. “And I didn’t forget anything about you, Gigi. Not a single damn thing.”

Chancing a look at the woman on his right, Lev found her nibbling on her bottom lip while her striking green eyes lowered to appreciate the tailored fit of his white button-down and how he’d rolled the sleeves up his forearms.

Painted a dusty rose color, her plush mouth threw him back in time without any warning. He could still remember the way her lips felt against his skin. How she kissed him hungrily. All the sounds that mouth of hers could make for him.

Not a date, he told himself. This isn’t a date, Lev.

But she sure looked like it.

“Although to be fair to the bartender,” Lev added in a murmur, “he wasn’t the only man in this place that couldn’t stop staring at you. I think every single man in here—”

“But I was only looking at you, right?”

“At, or for?”

Gigi wet her lips, and drummed her black-painted, stiletto fingernails to the glass in front of her. “Could it be both?”

“I thought you wanted to catch up?”

Unashamed and brazen, her sexy smile turned on him when she replied, “I do … maybe more than I should. Part of me thinks we never really finished what we started, Lev.”

“I didn’t know we started anything.”

“We wouldn’t be sitting in this bar if we hadn’t.”

Well

Lev barked out a hard laugh. A shitty attempt to hide the fact that her words and their frank truth slammed into his chest like a wrecking ball. “All right, let’s catch up.” He spun sideways on the stool, facing her entirely with the beer firm in his palm. He tipped the bottle up for a sip, fully enjoying the way she watched his throat bob with every swallow. Setting it back to the bar but not turning back in his seat, he said, “Tell me all about Gigi Rey, sweetheart.”

Gigi rolled her twinkling eyes and waved a hand high. “Her? She’s nobody.”

“Never heard a worse lie.”

BEFORE

by Bethany-Kris
Publication Date: April 20, 2020
Genres: Adult, Mafia, Organized Crime. Erotic Romance, Novella

Before everything changed …

He was just Lev Arsov. Bartender. Occasional illegal fighter. Struggling to get by.

Before the world watched …

She was just Gigi Parker. Unknown. Fledgling model. Barely making it work.

Before he was Pink, the mob enforcer, and she was Gigi Rey, the supermodel, they met by chance. It was only fun. No strings. Two people who didn’t have the first clue how different their lives would soon be.

But that was before …

Before everything changed.

*

Before is a free 31k preview of Bethany-Kris’s upcoming 112k standalone Mafia Romance, Pink. Blending in a contemporary beginning with Before, readers are introduced to how it all began for the mob enforcer and his supermodel. Note: Before is also included in Pink.

“Has anybody ever told you that your face should be on magazines?”

Gigi’s head popped up as a laugh burst from her lips. The man that had been working with the girls further down the bar approached her spot at the end, passing by at least twenty other people who gestured with a bit more ferocity at his blatant disregard for their shouts and demands. The white tee he wore stretched across the broad bands of muscle that made up an expansive chest. Rolled up at the sleeves, the fabric tightened to show off the way his strong arms and golden skin, dusted with dark hair, glinted under the pot lights that made up the backdrop of the bar when he placed them in front of her spot on the shiny top.

Black hair, shaved down to a well-groomed buzz, had a blue tint and only added to the sea-color of the stare that flicked over her features and then chanced a glance down at the low dip in the front of her romper. The man had no shame that he was checking her out, but she didn’t really mind all that much, either.

He wasn’t hard on the eyes.

It didn’t hurt to look at him.

Not at all.

And since he seemed content to drink in a good gulp of her, she did the same for him. Standing at least six and a half feet tall behind the bar, he towered higher than even the shelves of liquor behind him. Strong lines made up a face that didn’t have a hint of boyishness anywhere—not in the scruff that dotted a jaw and cheeks carved from stone. He was all man, all over. A thick brow quirked up when her stare slammed back into his, and a sexy grin stretched his thin lips wide to show off the white teeth that made up his smile.

And God.

What a fucking smile it was.

“Well, have they?” he asked.

Gigi had enough sense to swallow before she spoke, lest her next words come out in a girlish rush of hormones and stupidity. It wasn’t often a man could make her tongue-tied, and certainly not by only his approach.

But here she was.

Suddenly, this celebration was looking way better.

“It’s not the first time I’ve heard that line, actually,” she replied.

A laugh burst from his mouth, and yes, she somehow managed to feel that sound all over her body. The noise of the bar began to disappear all around her as the good-looking bartender with a body that looked more suitable to be in the ring than behind the bar leaned in. Edging a bit closer to her, he used his free hand to toss a yellow-checkered bar rag over his broad shoulder.

The action had her swallowing.

Again.

Because she’d noticed his fingers. Their length, the roughness of the digits like he used them a lot, and then their proximity to her when he dared to point one at her.

“But the better question,” he said, “is whether you’ve ever actually been on a magazine, hmm? Something familiar about that face.”

“Really? Because everyone likes to say they’ve never seen one like it.”

Those blue eyes of his blinked.

Then, he smirked.

“Maybe that’s it—never seen anything like it.”

It also wasn’t the first time she had been told that line, either. Except there was something about the way he said it and how his tone dipped at the end. Like his gaze roving down her throat when his tongue peeked out to lick along the seam of his bottom lip.

“Hey, are you gonna get us a fucking drink or—”

The bartender held up one large hand to the left, his palm stopping all of two inches away from the face of a beefy guy leaning across the bar top. “I’m only mixing for front tables tonight—fuck off to the other side of the bar before I move you there.”

Gigi grinned.

He hadn’t taken his eyes off her.

“I’m Gigi,” she said.

He opened his mouth to reply, but the announcer standing at the DJ’s booth just a few feet away from the boxing ring stopped him from saying anything at all when the man’s voice filled the speaker. His attention drifted to the man as he straightened up to his full height, allowing him to easily stare over the crowd of people.

“Next fight—Lev Arsov versus Draven Kinley. Ten minutes to start—one ten-minute round. Betting begins now.”

His gaze came back to her, sharper and sexier than ever. This time, that grin of his was a little more sinful and tempting.

But also dangerous.

“Looks like I’m up next.”

Gigi’s head snapped to the side, and she was sure her face reflected the shock radiating through her gut in that moment. He was just a bartender, right? “What?”

He winked. “Lev Arsov—that’s me. Stick around, Gigi. See what happens next.”

REVIEW

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 STARS

Bethany-Kris has delivered another golden masterpiece! Marcus is now my favourite Guzzi Boy…so much like Gian…LOVE HIM!!! The way he treated Cella like the queen she was born to be, and how he interacted with Tiffany just made my ovaries explode.

“Sometimes, that’s the point. You shouldn’t look for the good things, Cella. They should just find you when you need it the most.”

I am always in awe of BK’s stories and writing style, especially how she draws you in to the worlds she creates. I highly recommend reading this book, as well as the whole Guzzi Legacy series. Marcus by Bethany-Kris is an EPIC read and will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!

Bene, is the final book for the Guzzi Twins in The Guzzi Legacy Series. It’s another EPIC read from author Bethany-Kris. She is a mastermind of creating amazing characters and storylines that interconnect, and she weaves a tale that captures your attention from beginning to end. In this book, Vanna felt the need to pursue a vendetta that she inherited upon her father’s death, unbeknownst to Bene and the rest of the Guzzi Family. Despite their relationship commencing with this between them, they become what the other needs. And, Bene and Vanna’s chemistry is scorching hot! Experiencing their journey through BK’s words is sooo worth it!

I can’t stress enough, the need to read this series and this book; I highly recommend it! Bene by Bethany-Kris will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!

EXCERPT

Until, of course, she heard someone mutter, If youre gonna do that, could you fucking move it outside to the alley like every other bitch thatll get on her knees does, and give someone else the table?

Vanna stiffened the second Benes lips stilled against her own. She physically felt the change in his posture, and sensed it, too. Like his playful, sexiness had left him just like that, and the heat in his gaze suddenly burned with more rage than it did lust when his stare met hers.

She didnt know why she thought to speak to defuse the situation, but she still did. Or at least, she tried. Its fine. Just ignore him. Its o—”

That was all Vanna managed to say before Bene pushed away from her. He spun sideways, as though he had just known the asshole came up to his right without even looking that way when he had been distracted with her. His fist was already flying, crashing into the face of the man before Vanna even had time to think about what was happening.

And then as fast as it happened, it was over. Bene spun on his heels, a dark grin tugging at his lips when her wideslightly amused, but also terrifiedgaze met his. Yes, shed seen a man hit another man over her before. But no, she had never quite liked it the way she did right then.

The man hadnt even hit the floor before Benes hand found hers, and he pulled her off the pool table, grabbing her bag from the floor at the same time, and moved them toward the back entrance of the bar. She peeked over her shoulder in just enough time, right before they darted out the back doors, to see the bartender coming around the bar.

They were already gone.

It was over.

Thats how fast it happened.

Her hand stayed tucked tightly with Benes as he pulled her through the back alley behind the bar, and through the maze of another three. He didnt stop until they were one block down, and she recognized the familiar brick design of his building. Except it was the side, and not the front. Not that it mattered to her when he pressed her into the brick, his body crowding hers in the best way, leg slipping between her thighs to give her pussy something to grind on while he kissed her harder than ever.

Until her lungs burned.

And all she saw was him.

His hands skimmed over the front of her jeans, unsnapping the button and pulling down the zipper before sliding underneath. She stared down the alley to the busy street where people bustled on by. Not to mention, all the windows around them. What were the chances that this alley would be empty at this time of night? And still, anyone could see them there, if they just thought to look.

Vanna still didnt care.

That was crazy, she breathed against his mouth.

Bene chuckled, lips curving with hers. Worth it.

Shouldnt make a woman run in heels, Bene.

Can I fuck one in them?

Vanna groaned. Yes.

REVIEW

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 STARS

Suffice it to say that Bethany-Kris is such a talented writer. The way in which she delivers Beni Guzzi’s story is enthralling!!! I read this book in one sitting…just devoured it!

All the Guzzi Boys are absolutely swoon-worthy! They’re in a class all their own! Beni is definitely one of my favourites, there is something about his humour and wild side that just calls to me. August is the perfect woman for him. They make an amazing couple with a striking chemistry that is off the charts!

This may be the fourth book in The Guzzi Legacy Series, but it can be read as a standalone. Beni by Bethany-Kris is another EPIC read that will join many of the author’s previous books in the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!

SYNOPSIS

Chicago has never been more fun, or dangerous …

Sent away with his identical twin to get their wild ways under control, Beni Guzzi expects nothing to change. Same crap, new city, right? But if the boss of the Chicago mob can’t set the principes straight, then nothing will.

And then she rolls into town.

Stuck in a job that seems intent to keep her working behind a desk, August Rivera hopes a trip to the windy city for an assignment will make the magazine finally give her a spread. But getting to see her best friend, well, that’s just a bonus.

And then she sees him from across a club.

With a gang causing trouble for the Outfit, and a Capo’s crew in shambles, Beni has a million other things to focus on except the beautiful New Yorker who keeps finding her way into his bed. The thing is, when he’s with August, everything is better—easier.

Falling in love while handling family drama and mafia affairs is anything but simple … and in this business? It only takes a single mistake to lose it all.

That lesson can’t be taught, and it always comes too late.

Spinning around while taking a sip of the hot coffee, August came face to face with a smirking Beni. Damn, he looked good today. Gone were the dark wash jeans, leather jacket, and the Converse shoes. Oh, sure, she liked him in that, too, but today he had settled on something a bit more … classic, and fancy.

Black slacks, and a white button down that was rolled up to the elbows. A blazer hung over his arm, forgotten, likely because of the current summer heat sweeping through Chicago. No tie, she noticed, but that was okay because he’d left the top two buttons of his shirt undone, giving her a peek at the golden skin of his throat, a couple days’ worth of facial hair covering his jawline, and the way his Adam’s apple bobbed when he looked her over, and swallowed.

So good looking.

Did he know how he looked?

Because Jesus

At least, August didn’t feel underdressed standing in front of him, considering she had thrown on a black dress with elbow-length sleeves, a scoop neck, and a pencil skirt that fell to her knees. Black pumps matched the dress, and she went for a simple, rose gold necklace and matching earrings to draw attention to her little makeup, and the braids she had piled high on her head in a spiraling bun.

She did have a meeting today—one that involved talks about a possible job. She had to look professional, didn’t she?

“No work today?” she asked.

Beni flashed her another one of his sinful smiles. “Nah, I had better things to do.”

Was she one of those things?

He was here.

So … yep.

August liked that.

Too much.

There was something about a man that made a woman his priority that did it for her. Beyond sex, a man that cared enough to put in effort … it was all about the fucking effort with a woman like her.

She appreciated it.

“And you didn’t answer me,” he said. “Is this the second date?”

She gave him a look. “We didn’t really have a first.”

“Well—”

“That was not a first date.”

Beni chuckled, shoving his hands into his pockets as he looked her over from head to toe. There was something about his slow perusal that had her heating up from the inside out, butterflies beating hard in her stomach all the while.

What was he doing to her?

“So, we consider this a first date, then?”

August nodded. “And depending on how it goes, well, we’ll see about another one.”

His dark, husky laughter coated her in something sinful and wicked as he stepped alongside her to wrap a strong arm around her waist. He pulled her into his side for a one-armed hug, his mouth coming down to press a quick kiss to her soft line of baby hair along her forehead.

“Never stop doing that,” he told her.

August tipped her head back so that she could stare up at him. “Do what?”

That—keeping me on my toes. Nobody ever does that anymore, and I like it.”

Noted.

EXCLUSIVE REVEAL EXCERPT

August cocked a brow right back at him.

The response prompted the twin on the left to flash perfect, white teeth in a grin that had her stomach doing flipflops. His tongue peeked out to touch the corner of his upper lip that curled in his amusement.

And wow.

Her heart skipped beats.

“Found someone you like?”

Her staring contest with the strangely beautiful twin across the room was broken when August turned to find Camilla grinning at her side. A bottle of her favorite whiskey in hand, and a whole line of shot glasses already lined up on the bar, she must have been standing there enjoying August’s little show for a while.

She wasn’t even ashamed.

“Who is that?” August asked, not bothering to look the twins’ way again.

“The one on the right is Bene—Benedetto. The left, or rather, the one now coming your way looking like he wants to take a bite out of you, is Beni—Benito.”

“How can you tell the difference?”

“The leather bracelets they wear. Bene’s is always on his right, Beni on his left. The same position they always stand next to each other. And he really is coming your way. Use their nicknames, they prefer it. Oh, and don’t mention the strange twinness things they do. They really can’t help it, and don’t even realize when they’re doing it.”

“Coming my wa—”

“Smile, Aug,” her friend murmured, “because he looks like he’s a man on a mission, and from the rumors I have heard … you want to be the woman his attention finds. Smile.”

“Cam—”

“I’ll just leave this with you, and go find Tom,” her friend interjected, handing the bottle of whiskey over but taking two shot glasses full of the amber liquid for herself. “And have fun!”

“Cam!”

Her friend was already walking away.

August watched her go until—

Ciao.”

Oh, wow.

His voice.

She knew it was him without even needing to turn around to see him. Because his voice caused her skin to pebble with goosebumps, and her heart picked up speed all over again. His close proximity had her body heating up like nothing else, and a grin started to form on her lips as she nibbled on her bottom lip.

“You here with someone?” he asked.

August squeezed her eyes shut for a moment, still not ready to turn around. If she did it before she was ready, she would probably embarrass herself, and that was not what she wanted to do here. Not by a long shot.

“Just my friends,” she said.

“Cam, yeah. Her husband is a friend. Your name?”

August finally decided to turn around, then, coming face to face with a man who looked like the gracious and good God above had spent just a little more time creating him. Up close, it was far more apparent to her just how beautiful he was.

Strikingly so.

“August Rivera,” she said.

He held out a hand.

She took it.

And that heat?

Only burned hotter.

“August,” he said, as though he were tasting her name in his mouth. And goddamn, it sounded good coming out of those full lips. “Beni.”

SYNOPSIS

A made man versus the cartel …

The job was simple—a contract from a powerful crime family to retrieve Valeria Lòpez. A woman believed to have been forcibly taken by one of the major cartels in Mexico. Easy enough, right?

Christopher Guzzi thought so, but the details made it difficult. He didn’t expect to trick his way into the path of the cartel leader only to develop feelings for the woman he was meant to recover. That leader’s wife. Every step he takes is risky, and one wrong move could leave them both dead. Too bad that’s not enough to keep him away from Valeria as he tries to find a way to free her.

Hope is a dangerous thing.
Love is even worse.

Here, everybody plays dirty.
No one can be trusted.
So, how do they get out alive?

A sharp Boss from behind them had Jorge turning before he approached the table to pull out a chair for himself, likely leaving her to fend for herself.

“What?” Jorge asked the man who kept a safe distance.

The section they were dining in had no other patrons.

A private area?

What strings had Chris pulled?

“Your father is on the phone.”

Jorge grunted and waved a hand. “I will call him back.”

“He’s adamant that—”

Fine.” Jorge gave Chris a nod, saying, “I will be a few minutes. I’m sure you can entertain yourself without me.” He eyed the platters on the table, adding, “Begin eating without me, hmm? We eat, and then we do business.”

“Right,” Chris agreed. “No worries.”

Jorge pivoted on his heel, unbothered with leaving Valeria there to fend for herself. She was stunned, however, when Chris was quick to come around to her side of the table, and the first thing he did was grab a chair to pull out.

For her.

This close, she smelled the distinct aroma of his cologne. It fit his personality, she thought. Understated, but with distinct notes. Complex. Like him.

Valeria ignored the heat in her gut, never mind the way her heart raced when his hand came to rest on her waist when his dark tenor urged her to, “Sit.”

Lord.

Definitely a problem.

One she didn’t expect to have.

She held onto the clutch in her hands tighter as she took the seat he offered, but didn’t breathe any easier when his hand left her side. In fact, she wished for it to come back. “Thank you.”

“Never thank a man for being a gentleman,” he said, rounding the table to take his own seat, “because then they seem to think every kind act deserves a reward, hmm? It’s better not to teach men that behaving means getting something in return.”

Valeria stared across the table, unsure of what to say. Chris stared back, a sensual smile curving his lips. Finally, her brain worked.

“Why did you ask him to bring me here tonight?”

Chris shrugged. “Because I find you fascinating, and he’s slightly more interesting when you’re near. Also, it might keep him in line.”

“Good luck with that. Jorge is … uncontainable.”

To say the least.

“Well, he has to behave a little, if he wants my father’s business. I thought I should remind him of that before I arrive at the ranch. And you, well, you can enjoy the meal. I paid a lot for this evening, but if you smile even once, it’ll be worth it.”

Valeria did just that.

Smile.

Chris winked back.

Damn.
